About us
Kui / Kandha community is based on its language. But it is true that nowadays we are forgetting our language, literature, customs , prejudices, ethics, social values , history etc. We find these things among only the intellectuals and language lovers while speaking in our own mother tongue. We are taking the help of other dominant languages of the region, but it is difficult to purely speak in our own language. In our own areas and villages, we are speaking with a language other than our own language. Most of the speakers of Kui / Kandha community itself feel that there is no future of Kui language any more.
In the past there are several movements undergone to revive the Kui language, culture and traditions. Kui / Kandha community has its own script, namely Kui Gaari. The script has been discovered or created by late Dayanidhi Malik in 1982. He was felicitated by Kendriya Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi in 18.08.1998 with "Bhasha Samman" for his noble work in Kui literature and Kui Script. All the Kui / Kandha Society Unions of the Kui / Kandha community of Odisha and other parts of India ( Bharat ) accepted and approved it as universal Kui Script. The society unions viz., Nikhila Utkal Kui Samaj Union G.Udayagiri ( Regd. No. 5/1949-50 ), Kui Kula Samiti, Balliguda (Regd.No. PBN-126/1982-83) etc. Late Malik was a linguist, social worker etc. Later on other 8 no.of people created the Kui Script viz., Biswanath Pradha, Kandhamal., Dasura Malik, Gajapati., Deenabandhu Kanhar, Kandhamal., Mansingh Mallick, Kandhamal., Duryodhana Pradhan, Kandhamal., Purna Chandra Pradhan, Kandhamal., Srikanta Mallick, Kandhamal and Biswanath Pradhan, Nayagarh. Late Dayanidhi Malik 's love for Kui Language had compeled him to create script for Kui Language from the shapes of the limbs of the human body considering the first letter with pronunciation. Later on the scripts may be developed on the basis of basic foundation and simple shapes of the scripts for easy writing. The script has been developed to express Kui Language meaningfully with proper pronunciation. A famous linguist, Anderson said that " If a language dies, the entire community speaking that language dies".
